Performance Program Deadline Extended to November 1

We understand that weaning and weighing calves before October 11 is difficult for many breeders. The Canadian Angus Association has worked very hard with the Associations that we cooperate with in genetic evaluations on your behalf to increase efficiencies. We are very pleased to inform you that we are able to extend the deadline for performance data to be included in the next National Cattle Evaluation to Tuesday, November 1, 2011. Our staff will do their best to still have the new EPDs available in early 2012 for sale catalogue and bull buying decisions.

The Canadian Angus Association staff value our members and the feedback that you provide. We will continue to work hard for you to provide you with tools and services that are useful and practical for your Angus operation.

Please contact the Registry Department (registry@cdnangus.ca) as soon as possible if you do not yet have the 205 day worksheet for your Spring 2011 born calves. If you received a Missing Data – Herd Inventory listing for Spring 2011, please complete it and return to us as soon as possible so we can generate the 205 day worksheet.

It is preferable that you mail the worksheet or submit your weights electronically or by HerdMaster to ensure accuracy.

Refer to the Breeder Handbook for assistance with completing the 205 day worksheet.

Wednesday, June 1: International Livestock Congress Student Program application deadline
The Canadian Cattlemen's Association and the International Stockman's Educational Foundation are running a program that hosts Canadian and international students at the 2011 International Livestock Congress in Calgary. The student program runs Sunday, August 7 through Wednesday, August 11. Full details and application information can be found at www.ilccalgary.com/html/student.html

Wednesday, June 1: Showdown early registration deadline
Showdown 2011 takes place July 21-23 in Weyburn, Saskatchewan. With competitions in cattle events, photography, cooking, literature and more, there is truly something for everyone. Showdown is a tremendous opportunity to meet other CJAA members from across the country, engage in friendly competitions, and form new friendships. Register by June 1 and pay $60 per participant. On June 2, the fee increases to $100. Download the application form or visit the the CJAA website for more details.

Wednesday, June 15: CJAA Scholarship application deadline
Every year the CJAA awards three $1,000 scholarships to members. The funds are applied to post-secondary or graduate education. Download the application form. The winners of the scholarships will be announced at Showdown.

Monday, June 20: Showdown late registration deadline
This is your last chance to register for Showdown 2011.

New Canadian Angus Performance Program Deadline: October 10, 2010

The deadline to submit all performance data for the Spring 2011 National Cattle Evaluation has been changed to October 10, 2010. In order to have your performance data included in the November NCE, all data must be in the office by October 10; data can be submitted online or by mail.

However, most pastures are very green this year and many Canadian Angus Performance Program members were planning on leaving their cattle out as long as possible. If you do not submit your data by October 10th, you should still submit it as soon as possible. Data that gets submitted after the deadline will be used to calculate Interim EPDs (P+) for members until it is used in the next NCE in June 2011. Interim EPDs consist of Parental Averages (P) and the trait information that is submitted.

If your Herd Inventory and Application for Registration has been processed and you received an RFI (Request for Information) sheet from us, please provide your corrections or changes in writing and return it to the office by fax or mail. To ensure accuracy, we cannot accept revisions by telephone. The registration fee for an animal on which an RFI has been issued will be held for 90 days, but we strongly recommend that you respond to an RFI as soon as possible. If you have received a Missing Data-Herd Inventory sheet, please update it and return it to us as soon as possible. Once your inventory is complete, 205-day worksheets will be generated for you.

We realize that deadlines are sometimes difficult to meet when so much of our business is dependent on variables like the weather, however, data that is submitted shortly after it is taken is much more accurate and leaves more time to complete everything.
