Intern Orientation Week
April 21-25 marked the first week of work for the Canadian Angus Marketing Interns, but what a week it was! Orientation was filled with many educational aspects, such as learning about social media, press releases, and talking to the public. We were also fortunate enough to be in Angus Central all week, and met nearly all of the staff. We learned about each department and ways to answer questions we may be asked about each one.
On Tuesday we had our initial welcome and meeting of the staff as well as introductions to our summer duties. An added bonus was having lunch cooked for us by CEO Rob Smith!
On Wednesday we planned out our schedule and spoke with Belinda Wagner, who is the coordinator for the CJAA and the Executive Director of the Canadian Angus Foundation. We had a brainstorming session on possible ways to promote the beef industry, as well as did our practice press releases.
On Thursday we had the pleasure of learning about the Beef Advocacy Program, as well as the Canadian Cattlemen’s Association.
On Friday we had more scheduling, wrap up sessions, and a mock school presentation to the entire CAA staff, which had many laughs and good times!
It was great meeting all the knowledgeable and fun people we will be fortunate enough to work with this summer. It was a very successful week, and a great start to what we hope is an even greater summer!
